Does anyone know of a decent salon in the DC area (within walking distance of the metro)? I've lived here for almost a year and have gotten nothing but overpriced crap cuts again and again despite having pictures to show them exactly what I want. :((

Hairdresser Found! [19 Oct 2010|08:28am]

lil_m_moses
I finally found my favorite hairdresser again! For the record, she's Margo Webster in the Clear Lake area of Houston, currently working at Lavish Salon and Spa. I finally got my shagtastic hair cut short again last weekend and then refreshed my dye. Margo did an awesome job with the cut, as usual. My hair's got a stubborn wave/flip, so the key for me is to have the outermost layer cut just a smidge longer than the stuff underneath, so it can curl under and weigh the rest down and prevent it from flipping out. I still have flippy hair days, but at least it's not every day with this cutting technique. I went shorter this time 'cause the chin to shoulder-length A-line has totally become soccer-mom hair and I'm tired of it. I think I like the shorter length on me better anyway.

Wavy Longer A-Line [23 Jul 2010|03:31pm]

lil_m_moses
Massively overgrown and damaged (haven't had a cut in a year), but here's my normally chin-length A-line grown long, and behaving nicely in the air of Barcelona (it's been a frizz-bomb lately at home in Houston).

medium length wavy A-LINES? [01 Sep 2009|08:44pm]

jeblue
I'm debating getting an a-line done and i really think a medium length a-line would suit me really well.

does anyone have any pictures of what i might be talking about? (preferably un-straightened)

i can't seem to find any and i really don't want to have my hair screwed up anymore than it already is right now. i just ended my 9 month old relationship with dreadlocks and my hair is still thick as hell at the top but the ends that go almost past my boobs is really thin and scraggly, so i'm hoping for a fresh start.

thanks!

How could I forget??!!! [13 Aug 2009|01:19pm]

I posted here like forever ago (at least 3 years) when I was only just considering hacking off my hair. I've long since done it but have kinda been off LJ for a while so I forgot to post the pics.

I went from this...

To this in October 2007... )

It's actually pretty grown out again so I'll be cutting again soon. And I think I'm gonna have it stack a little more in the back this time...bolder by degrees lol =)

Wow no one writes here at all anymore. What's up with that? it used to be a really active community.

I'm looking for suggestions on a good stylist to go to in the Pittsburgh, PA area, for cutting an a-line the RIGHT way. Anyone have any ideas?

Considering a change to my bob - EDITED [20 Mar 2009|12:45pm]

I am writing to ask for advice and suggestions. I currently have a really short bob, about an inch below my ears, with below eyebrow length bangs. I"m in the process of growing out a much shorter cut, so there are still some growing out layers. The back is graduated a bit, but I'm considering cutting it shorter, with a buzzed nape and stacked back, to create more of an angle with the sides - the beginnings of an aline bob. I'm also considering going shorter and heavier with the bangs - like maybe mid forehead to a little above the brow, and thicker - more like baby bangs. Basically I want a Louise Brooks bob. Based on the picture of me below, would this suit me? I also posted 3 pics of what I want my hair to look like. Does anyone have any suggestions/thoughts/ideas? I'd also like to see more pics of short alines, especially with baby bangs. Thanks!!!

new a-line! [05 Mar 2009|06:06pm]

So I decided it was about time for another haircut and I was so in love with the last A-line I had, I decided to do it again, maybe a little shorter this time...getting in it I had no idea how short it was actually about to become.
The girl that had done my hair before left on maternity leave :( so I decided to press my luck and go to a new girl. I was generally happy with the cut when I left, but I decided to straighten my hair the next day. The layers in the A-line were SO choppy looking so I went back last night, and ended up with this-

which, is MUCH shorter than I wanted *my hair was about shoulder length since it'd grown out after I got it cut in December* and I kinda think the lil "strip" I have on both sides that's longer than the rest *which, I know, is what makes it an A-line* seems out of place because there just isn't much to it.

Today I decided I was going to try it curly...and it was even more of a mess. The bottom layer is now too short to have any curl so it just sticks out everywhere, so I ended up having to straighten it and let the top do as it wishes...like this:

all in all, I like it better straight than curly at this point, but I just don't have time to straighten it everyday...I enjoy my sleep! lol. Let me know your thoughts...should I go back AGAIN and just have her cut it into a bob? AAAAHHH!

hi everyone. i am really sick of my hair and am really considering a long a-line. my user pic is an old pic of me when my face was thinner.... i have just recently cut off a lot of hair, which has lots of layers..which i am regretting because i feel like for the A line you really should start with your hair one length. anyway, here are a few pics of my face and various cuts i have had... please let me know the truth about if you think i could pull it off. my hair is thin at the front however has lots of volume towards the bottom..if that makes sense. i have just had the same hair style FOREVER and would like something different for once.

From pixie to A-line... [15 Feb 2009|09:31am]

[ mood | busy ]

Hello all,

I am new to this excellent community (waves!) and was wondering if anyone has pictures of really short A-line cuts?

My hair is currently in a pixie-ish cut ). It's a bit longer than this all over at the moment. My hair type is very thick, coarse and wavy.  I want to alter it into a 1920s-ish, A-line/shingle  crop...sort of like good old Agyness has in these pics, but with a sharper angle from front to back, and shorter. Thing is, I'm wanting to achieve a gradatation effect from the shaved back part to the fuller part towards the top of my head, to avoid an undercut-type look...I'm not sure if this will be possible on hair as short as mine.

I was just wondering if anyone has made such a 'transformation', and  if so, if you could be so kind as to post a pic! Or, if you have any pics of a cut that you think might work on hair my length, please share!

Thanks!

wondering for hair advice pls a-line noob [12 Jan 2009|09:28pm]

themostfleeting
hey, I would like to cut my long hair and give it away because I am tired of it! I've been intrigued by a-lines for a while now, but I'm not sure if they would look good on me at all because I have a really long face and a high forehead and I'm worried a dramatic haircut would emphasize that in a bad way. So I was wondering if people could give me their input on if an a-line might look good, recommendations for general length front/back or any other hair-type recommendations---don't be afraid to be like GURL THAT WULD BE SRSLY GROSS CITY ON U cause I wanna know! thanks in advance

Hello, I go by Crow! I live in the Colorado Rockies, where there's lots of snow but oddly low humidity. Here's a picture of me at the Denver Art Museum (hence the bizarro lighting). Unfortunately I don't have any pictures of the back; my hair rises just above the ears.

Photobucket

I've been cutting my own hair for many years now, mostly variations on the A-line bob. My favorite cutting tool is the Pirouette razor, which gives my fine hair more texture and movement. Blunt haircuts + my square face = DO NOT WANT, so that's another reason I love A-lines and my razor.

Recently I've read that razor cutting makes hair prone to split ends and is more damaging to the hair shaft. Is there any truth to this? Along with changing the blades frequently, are there other ways to minimize any stress razor cutting puts on hair? Cutting wet vs dry, rubbing oils or product into the hair before I cut it?

I've never noticed any problems - then again, I'm not a professional hair stylist. Just a schmuck with no money and enough luck to pull off a decent looking cut.

Any answers, ideas and thoughts are much appreciated!
